Description of the Artwork

"New Horizons" is a poignant and atmospheric work that exemplifies Donald Vann’s mastery of "mystical realism." The composition features a Native American figure or party in a vast, snow-touched landscape—a recurring motif in Vann’s work that symbolizes the resilience and spiritual journey of the Cherokee people. Rendered with soft, ethereal gradients and a cool-toned palette, the piece uses light to bridge the gap between the physical world and the ancestral spirit. This Gallery Edition (G.E.) is particularly prized for its smaller edition size and superior color fidelity compared to larger trade runs.

Artist Bio: Donald Vann

Donald Vann (b. 1949) is one of the most prominent Cherokee artists of the 20th century. Born in Oklahoma and mentored by the legendary Jerome Tiger, Vann’s style is characterized by a "brush-stroke-less" aesthetic achieved through meticulous airbrushing and watercolor washes. His work often reflects the quiet dignity and spiritual depth of the Southern Plains tribes. A Vietnam veteran and a recipient of the "Artist of the Year" award from the Council of Five Civilized Tribes, Vann has exhibited globally, and his originals are held in prestigious collections including the Smithsonian Institution. His collaborations with Native American Images in Austin, Texas, are considered the definitive period of his print production.
