Artwork Description

"Hotdoggers" is a quintessential example of Bryan Moon’s ability to blend technical artistry with a mischievous sense of humor. Published in 1991, this work depicts a motley crew of personified canines ready to tackle the ski slopes. From the "cool" shades to the colorful winter gear, each dog is imbued with a distinct personality that resonates with pet lovers and sports enthusiasts alike. Moon’s mastery of the offset lithograph process is on full display here, with rich textures and a warm palette that bring this whimsical winter scene to life.

Artist Biography

Bryan Moon (1928–2015) was a British-born artist who led a life of extraordinary duality. After a high-flying career as the Vice President of Advertising for Northwest Airlines, he returned to his primary passion—fine art—in 1987. Moon was famous for his "live the experience" philosophy; to paint lions, he wrestled with them in Africa; to paint sled dogs, he lived at base camps in the South Pole.

While his "serious" aviation and historical works reside in the permanent collections of the U.S. Air Force Academy and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, he achieved global fame for his humorous depictions of animals. Beyond the studio, Moon was a dedicated humanitarian who founded "MIA Hunters," a group that located the remains of missing American service members from World War II.
