Artwork Description

"Gone Fishin'" is a classic example of Bryan Moon’s beloved whimsical animal portraiture. In this piece, Moon captures the personified charm of man's best friend, trading the domestic hearth for the Great Outdoors. Known for his ability to imbue animals with human-like expressions and humorous intent, Moon portrays these canine characters with a delightful mix of earnestness and comedy. The soft, detailed rendering of the fur and the atmospheric landscape reflect his mastery of the offset lithography medium, ensuring a vibrant and timeless addition to any collection of sporting or animal art.

Artist Biography

Bryan Moon (1928–2015) was a British-born artist whose life was as adventurous as his artwork was humorous. A former Vice President of Northwest Airlines, Moon returned to his first love—fine art—in 1987. His "guiding principle" was to live the experience before painting it; he famously wrestled with lions in Africa and sailed 1,300 miles in the South Pacific to study his subjects.

While his serious works are held in prestigious collections like the United States Air Force Academy and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, he is best known globally for his whimsical paintings of cats and dogs. Beyond the easel, Moon was a dedicated humanitarian and founder of "MIA Hunters," a group recognized by the U.S. Department of Defense for its work in locating missing American service members from World War II.
