Robert K. Abbett: Shooting the High Field Print | 698/950 | Mint Never Framed
Artwork Description
"Shooting the High Field" is a quintessential example of the sporting art that made Robert K. Abbett a household name among outdoor enthusiasts and fine art collectors alike. Published in 1991 as part of the prestigious Wild Wings Collection, this limited edition print captures a moment of quiet intensity in the field.
The composition features a pair of pointers working through a sprawling, golden-hued autumn landscape. Abbett’s mastery lies in his "impressionistic realism"—his ability to render the precise anatomy and focused expression of the dogs while treating the background with a soft, painterly touch that suggests the crisp air and vastness of the high country. This work is not merely a depiction of a hunt, but a tribute to the enduring partnership between hunter and dog.
