Howard Behrens (Coming Soon)

Artist Bio

The Master of the Palette Knife

Howard Behrens (1933–2014) was a visionary American artist whose work defined a new era of modern Impressionism. Renowned as the world’s foremost palette knife artist, Behrens traded the traditional brush for a blade, using it to apply thick, luscious layers of pigment that captured the shimmering light and vibrant soul of the world’s most beautiful coastal destinations.

The "Monet of the 21st Century"

Behrens’ style is an evolution of classic Impressionism. While he shared the 19th-century masters' obsession with light, his technique was uniquely his own. By using a palette knife, he created a sculptural quality on the canvas—a "tactile" realism where the Mediterranean sun feels warm to the touch and the waves of the Italian Riviera seem to dance in three dimensions.

A Journey Through Color

His portfolio is a visual travelogue of the world’s most romantic locales:

  • The Amalfi Coast: Sun-bleached villas perched over sapphire waters.

  • Giverny: A reverent nod to his predecessor, Claude Monet.

  • Tropical Escapes: Lush gardens and quiet Caribbean hideaways.

Artistic Philosophy and Legacy

For Behrens, art was not just about the scene, but about the feeling of being there. He spent decades traveling the globe, sketches and camera in hand, seeking out the "perfect light." Today, his work is held in prestigious collections worldwide and remains a staple for collectors who seek art that radiates joy, warmth, and a timeless sense of wanderlust.

"I am a traditional painter, but I see things in a very contemporary way. I want the viewer to feel the heat of the sun and the coolness of the shadows." — Howard Behrens
